Dirt Road Rescue is a foster-based rescue in SE Kansas
About Us
Dirt Road Rescue Inc was formed for the sole mission of saving the abandoned, abused, neglected and in-need animals in rural Eastern Kansas.
What We Do
Dirt Road Rescue is a 501c3 registered non-profit rescue in the state of Kansas. We aim to provide a lifeline for dogs from dire situations to their forever homes.
While our number one priorities are rescue, collaboration and education; we do plan to expand our efforts in the future. As we grow we hope to offer trapping and microchip scanning services.

Where It All Began
Our rescue journey started with a sweet soul named Gracie. She was surrendered by her owner with two of her pups from a previous litter and placed in the city pound. Gracie gave birth to 11 puppies that same day. We couldn't stand to see her and her babies in that pound so we took her home and loved her and her babies until the pups found their forever homes. Gracie is still with us and is the sweetest velcro dog!
Saving Gracie gave us the deep desire to help those special lives that have no voice. These sweet souls are deserving of love and a warm, safe place to call home.

Hi! I am Megan Purvis and I live in Mound City. I have two kids, Damian and Madylon. I also have four crazy dogs; Capone, Oscar Rodriguez, Willie and Gracie and usually have a foster or two. I am passionate about rescue, volunteering and promoting responibility for all pet parents. When I am not working or rescuing I enjoy crocheting, fishing and reading.
Hi there! I'm Samantha and I live just outside of Mound City on a beautiful hillside with my mother and our five canines. I've been a dog lover my whole life and find so much fulfillment in rescuing, fostering and volunteering. Outside of my love for animals I have been affectionately known for my snark and sarcastic nature. I enjoy time with my family, a good holistic remedy and the satisfaction of finishing a good jigsaw puzzle.
Hi! I'm Melayna Johnson and I live in Mound City. I am married to Raymond Johnson and the mother of 3. Owner of Maynerds foodtruck. I also run a food pantry for those in need. My hobbies include garage saleing, cooking, and traveling.
Hi! I’m Janet Jackson and I live in Mound City with my husband and our fur family. We currently have 6 dogs (1 foster) 12 cats, 3 chickens, a horse and burro! We’ve always been active in rescuing animals, so I’m thrilled to be associated with Dirt Road Rescue! Since living in Mound City we’ve rescued and successfully rehomed close to 80 dogs and cats. Our jobs with the Postal Service and Sheriff’s Department gave us many opportunities to help our stray population. We hope to help promote the spay and neuter programs to keep this growing problem of unwanted pets to a minimum!
Services
Rescue
We offer rescue services for neglect, abuse, abandonment, hoarding and breeder surrender cases. We are a foster-based rescue. We do not have a physical facility so we are unable to accept owner surrenders.
Rural Rescue Promotion
Dirt Road Rescue is passionate about collaborating with all of our rural pounds, shelters and rescues to help promote available animals. We volunteer at local rescues, run donation drives and promote adoptable furry friends!
Community Help
We want to support our local community and help those in need. If you or someone you know needs help with dog/cat food, vetting, kennels, leashes/collars, etc., please send us a message!
Assist
We will assist local law enforcement and Animal Control to extract dogs from dire situations as well as find rescue placement for strays.
Microchip Scanning
We have a microchip scanner and want to offer that service to anyone who finds a wandering pet. We will always help try and reunite a pet with its owner!
